The Gupo Gold Deposit is located approximately 3 kilometres south of the Adi Nefas Deposit and 8 kilometres from Emba Derho. Gold mineralization is associated with quartz veins along a shear zone and also occurs as free gold associated with sulphides in mainly quartz veins.
Previous drilling has outlined an inferred gold resource estimate of 1,965,000 tonnes at a grade of 2.99 grams per tonne gold totalling 189,000 ounces of gold.
Assay results from a recently completed, December 2011, drill program confirmed the continuity of the near surface mineralized zone at Gupo and the open pit potential. With its location close to Adi Nefas and Emba Derho, Gupo could provide open pit gold production in any future possible mining operations on the Asmara Project. The pre feasibility study being conducted on the Asmara North Projects will include Gupo Gold.
